Michelle Thompson

Director

I started my accounting career in 1983 when I was employed in a medium sized Chartered Accountant office. Still employed in 1987 I qualified as a Society of Chartered Accountants New Zealand Member.  However, when my children were born I choose to put my career on hold for a few years.  I first kept in touch as a partly retired member before deciding to completely resign from the Society of Accountants in 2002.  I have chosen deliberately to not renew or reactivate this membership with the institute and do not mind explaining why with those interested to ask.

In 2003 I joined the Tax Agents Institute of New Zealand (TINZ) and begun my dream of opening my own accounting business. I established Tax and Trust Professional’s from my home and quickly the firm grew until my home was no longer large enough to hold all my staff, and we opened the Kelston branch to help accommodate everyone.

My favourite part of my work is seeing clients surpass their dreams of what their business can become, and I enjoying working closely with my clients as we make it happen together. I love motivating clients to “just do it”.  I also enjoy introducing my clients to new technologies, such as Banklink and Xero, which can help prevent problems and minimise their time and cost in compliance work.

Outside of work, I am married and love spending time with my husband Grant watching movies, camping, dining out  and travelling across New Zealand on his motorbike. Our family is large and noisy, as between us we have eight children, comprising of six adults and two ‘tweenagers’, but we frequently meet to play board games and spend time together. When I am not doing all this, I can usually be found scrap-booking, and I love putting my memories into beautiful books for everyone to enjoy.
