December News
Thank you very much for your valued custom this year. Thanks to all of you who have already sent back your banklink forms we have made the draw and Brandan Smith who is the winner has been contacted for the free dinner.
We are working very hard on closing accounts we have already begun, completing GST records to the end of November and sending out 2nd instalment provisonal tax letters please contact us by email or phone if you have any urgent requests for information.
We are looking forward to a break from numbers and deadlines and our Kelston office is closed from next Thursday and our Henderson one from closed from 5pm 22 December - both offices reopening 9am 11 January 2010.
Limean, Tina and Danny - three of our accountants are returning to China for the holidays the rest of the team are staying around NZ.
Michelle Mackintosh who has been part of my team in various roles for five years is leaving to start her own business where she lives in East Auckland. I do want to thank her for the massive input in the direction and management she has had in Tax and Trust Professionals during all this time. When she started it was just Henry a contract accountant and myself and Mack as we call her all working various part-time hours and we are a very different firm in 2 offices - five short years later.
When we all return from holiday in January, it is a quieter time of year for us for we have completed 84% of the year's filing already and we do have a gap of excess capacity of staff over work to fill. So if you need any extra cashflow or management reporting please do not hesitate to call or if you meet people over the holidays who need a good accountant or management help please remember to refer our services.
Tax News
On 6 October 2009 the government widened the definition of "Associated Persons" for land transactions after this date. This small change has big ramification for investing and building clients. Many common structures that existing clients have that used to divide taxable and non taxable sales of land are no longer able to be used and investment properties may be caught and capital gains which the client may have considered non taxable may now be taxable upon sale, this is particularly true if you or someone on your behalf has dealt in any building or development work in the past 10 years. To learn more please register to attend an interactive seminar of maximum of 20 people that we are arranging for 18 February 2009 3pm -5pm . Click here to contact_us for more details.
Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and looking forward to working with you towards a prosperous 2010.
Kind Regards

Living Boldly
We all admire and are inspired by those around us who have an adventurous spirit. The most well known was Sir Edmund Hillery but many other New Zealanders have made huge successes in the world stage in their fields. See more
A common feature of successful people is they are prepared to make changes and often require themselves and those around them to make a big leap of faith towards a uncertain outcome in order to make a big stride towards where they want to go. Are you like this? Can you name a bold change you made this year - or can you name a risk you are contemplating making stratecially in your business next year?
As a New Zealander we can be proud of our heritage of successful hereos, however to make bold changes ourselves is to upset our own personal comfort and ease and what we know in order to have a better tomorrow for ourselves and our employees and our families.
I believe boldness is an acquired habit of taking stategic risks. It is not natural - it is a determined mindset that focuses on a specific strategic direction and willing to take the moves and risks necessary to get there.
Every new act of boldness you make in your business that is different to what your competitors are doing will over time help you to outperform their results. Every new act counts so start today and actively look to move out of your comfort zone as far as your business goes and take a tactical risks. Be a true Kiwi business person!
