| This past year has seen more tax changes than any year in the preceding 20 years. Tax legislation continued to be passed right up to late on Saturday night as Parliament sat under urgency to get through the end of the year list. The new structure just created and nicknamed LTC has some important differences to LAQC's and for property investors - I believe most investment clients will be wanting a different structure to what they currently have. There is a transitional period, though, of a year - so we will discuss each situation with each client as we prepare their 2011 tax returns. |

Just as this newsletter was being prepared there was an article in the Sunday Herald about the IRD getting extremely tough on businesses that cannot pay their tax. We have found, here in this office, that the IRD are usually reasonable about extensions for tax - if enough information is given to them about a client's ability or lack of ability to pay and the client also keeps to any arrangement they set up. However if you do get an aggressive call from the taxman - have no hesitation in referring them back to us.
If you can't pay your 2011 provisional please talk to this office - there are ways of financing it or paying it off that may help you this year. |

2nd Provisional Tax Reminders will be sent out this month and are required to be paid by 14th January. The November GST Returns are required to be paid by 25th January.

| Pick up Momentum Fast Next Year |

It is difficult if not impossible in the middle of a busy day or week to sit down and really think about important but not urgent matters such as answers to these questions.
Where am I now?
Where do I want to be?
What are my strategies to get there?
What are the next action steps to take?
Who do I need to help me take them?
So during a holiday break it's the perfect time. So print these questions out and sometime when you feel your body relaxing take them out and really think hard.
Picking up momentum quickly when you return from holiday is not that difficult. Momentum is fundamentally about activity; the right activity. It doesn't even have to be massive activity because momentum can be built, provided people are doing the right things.
Essentially, you just need yourself and any team members starting work knowing exactly what action they personally need to take from day one. No pause, no figuring out what to do or taking a few weeks to get up to speed again. We need to hit the ground running in the right direction and that means one thing. Planning.
