Terminal Tax due 7 April 2010

We are in the process of sending out 2009 Terminal Tax letters due for payment 7 April 2010.  If you don't get a letter next week and you are worried that you should have please contact this office.

Engagement Letters

We are also concentrating on sending engagement letters and service questionnaires for the 2010 financial year to those who we expect to complete work for in April this month.

If you are wanting your annual work done urgently for any reason - please let us know.  Otherwise Margaret who is now the workflow manager will contact you about a month before we will need you to bring in your records to us and then we will complete the job within the guaranteed period of 28 working days unless we get behind because of unanswered queries.

Thank you for the awesome response to my letter requesting feedback about the tax service you wish to have from Tax and Trust Professionals this year.  I particularly appreciate your comments and all information given will be noted on your file.  If you haven't sent the form back please indicate on this letter what month you would like to bring in your records for processing.  April and May are very full already.

Many clients when they have visited us have asked about how our Kelston office is going.  Our turnover has risen 30% so far upon last year's result so we are extremely pleased with the move.

Staff Changes

Margaret O'Conner has accepted the difficult role of workflow manager of both offices - if you are unsure about anything to do with your annual work and when it will be ready please contact Margaret directly.  margaret@taxandtrust.co.nz

Danny Li is moving from Henderson to Kelston office full-time but is able to meet clients at both offices by appointment.

Nadine Crozier is starting next month as a full time receptionist for Kelston (Nadine will be training at Henderson first).

Sarah Thompson (Michelle's daughter) who is studying law at Auckland University has joined the practice part time and will be helping clients with employment problems and managing TTP's debtor's - any problems with your invoice or want to discuss payment options available feel free to email:
sarah@taxandtrust.co.nz.

Of course I (Michelle) am available to answer any of these questions too - and for major concerns please phone me first but often I will be checking with the staff member in charge of their area before I can answer you - so it may be easier for you to communicate directly with them.  I am away on leave next week and will be back in the office on the 15th of March.

Kind Regards,

Michelle Thompson

Interest Rate changes

From 1 April 2010 you can select the interest rate that matches your personal income tax rate.  The personal tax rates did change last year but the interest rates stayed higher so many who had deposits were overtaxed.  If you are unsure about what rate you should be on - phone us your accountants and we can help you.

Rates and thresholds from 1 April 2009:

Income thresholds Rates
Income to $14,000 12.5%
$14,001 - $48,000 21%
$48,001 - $70,000 33%
$70,001 and over 38%

If you wish to check what rate of tax you are paying feel free to type your annual income into the calculator on our website under the resources tab.

Focus on Results

Results are everything.

Past behaviour is a huge indicator of future behaviour and past results are a big indicator to me of future results.

Changing your results is hard work for we change our behaviour, thoughts, beliefs and habits so slowly.

We are able to change what we are able to measure though so what key performance indicator in your business are you measuring at least weekly - in order to improve?

Working on your business and not just in it - is essential to true business success.  Thinking about what is working and what is not - measuring it and focus on improving.

I recently finished a book on Leadership by Rudolph Guliani who was mayor at the time of the Twin Towers attack - I recommend the book to all clients who like to read.

I found the story truly inspirational and now Rudolph Guliani has become a model of outstanding leadership for me.  He was absolutely focused on detail in his leadership.  He measured every department and made heads of department accountable for constant improvements.   Just in the area of public safety in his 8 years of leadership - murders in the city went down by two thirds, shootings by 75% and all crime fell by 57%. - WOW

What result this month do you want to focus on and improve?

If you don't focus on some improvement - expect  the same result as last year.  As your accountant and business advisor, we will see this too.

Please have a focused March and finish the financial year off with hitting a target you want to reach.
